The Old Magic never died. Did you really think it so weak it might be killed by freeways? Wowapi is the Assiniboine word given to me and Roxy from Minerva and John Allen, Roxy's Assiniboine adoptive and naming parents, to describe any form of communication. Writing in the sky is wowapi. Writing with your finger in the sand is wowapi. Roxy's music is wowapi. - Judy Gordon
Roxy Gordon has a positive effect on everyone he meets. I met him after he died, so he didn't get a chance to meet me face to face. Still, it was a good meeting. He told me stories that moved my dreams, and I heard his music, which gave me more dreams. He speaks from his heart and the heart of the land. He received much of the conversation people have been having with North America for the last 20,000 years, and passes it on in his work. Not everyone would like his work, but you have to see if you are or aren't one of those people. I heard, I read, I meditated on it: I think I've moved beyond just "liking" it, but, yes, there was a while right after I was first exposed where I liked his work. Now, I find him as vital to America and being American as the likes of Edgar Allan Poe, Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, Townes Van Zandt, Richard Dobson, or any of the other host of writers who heard the land and wrote down what it told them. I started with "Breeds" and "Smaller Circles" and just a little ways in either one, I was finding inspirations for my own work. The greatest art isn't art that people recognize most or buy most. The greatest art is what inspires the emotions, intellect, and spirit most. Roxy Gordon's art, First Coyote Boy's art, the art of Toe GaJukeJuke Gan Hok Sheena is what I would consider among some of the greatest art I have been blessed to discover. It is an honor for me to work on this site and bring Roxy Gordon closer to you. - Dean Webb
