My Horse Spoke
"One day a hawk came by and, frightened, my horse spoke to him, asking."
A limited number of these prints were found in a box of Roxy's papers when Judy moved to Dallas. They were hand pulled by the artist, and are available, unframed, for $100 while the supply lasts. Ink on paper. 11" x 17."
Judy says:
If I'm not mistaken, he gave first painting of it to Rick Sikes, a Christmas gift. Rick has it framed, hanging on one of the Sikes' walls in Coleman, Texas.
Now this is what I think: "A self-portrait of Roxy Gordon, who cared for hawks and, knowing that that bird was part of his medicine, would light a cigarette anytime he saw one. The hawk is perching on a fence post."
Minerva Allen told Roxy and me to always light a cigarette when we saw a hawk, because the little ceremony would help all human beings. I still do this.
