Judy says:
I painted this first, to experiment drawing and painting a horse, with an Indian warrior known as a Dog Soldier, which is similar to the white man's military soldiers. Then, I reduced painting to be used as an illustration for a poem in Minerva Allen's book, Like Spirits of the Past Trying to Break Out and Walk to the West.
